Common questions

Painting questions, answered

Still wondering about something? Call or text (701) 219-1472.

How much does it cost to paint a room or a house?

Every job is priced by the square foot after a free walkthrough. Prep, number of coats and materials are itemized in a written quote that's good for 30 days.

When is exterior painting season in the Brainerd area?

Roughly May through early October. Most exterior paints and stains need temperatures above about 35–50°F (depending on the product) while they go on and for a day or so after, and Brainerd-area nights usually drop below that by mid-to-late October. Interior painting isn't affected by the weather, so fall and winter are the best time to book it.

Do you stain decks, docks and log cabins?

Yes. We strip, brighten and re-stain decks, docks and railings, and stain cedar and log siding with semi-transparent or solid stains. Yearly deck maintenance keeps the wood from going gray.

How often should a deck be re-stained in Minnesota?

Most decks in the Brainerd area need a fresh coat of semi-transparent stain every 2–3 years. Solid stains last longer on railings and siding but wear faster where people walk. If water soaks in instead of beading up, or the wood is starting to turn gray, it's time.

Do you paint lake cabins and vacation rentals?

Yes. We paint and stain lake cabins, lake homes and rental properties, from log and cedar siding to full interior repaints. Fall and winter are a good time to repaint a rental cabin's interior between guests, and we'll schedule around your bookings.

Is Whites Finish a local company?

Yes. Whites Finish LLC is based in Pillager, Minnesota and is owned and run by Jacob, who has 3+ years of professional painting experience. We serve Brainerd, Baxter, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Crosslake and the rest of the Brainerd Lakes area.

How soon can you start?

We're booking interior work now for fall and winter, and you'll get a start date along with your written quote. Exterior and deck work is scheduled from May through early October.

Are you insured?

Yes. Whites Finish LLC carries general liability insurance, and we'll send a certificate of insurance on request.

Do I need to move furniture or pick colors before you start?

No. We move and cover furniture and protect floors. Colors and sheen get talked through at the walkthrough, and we can sample on the wall before you commit.
